Karen Nielsen is an author and speaker on suicide prevention and mental illness awareness. She is also a mentor to women of all ages helping them find their self-worth and cultivate the ability to overcome adversities in their lives. She spent 30 years in the corporate world, and after her husband took his own life after a long battle with chronic back pain and mental illness, she decided to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a published author. Karen has spent 15 years speaking and facilitating women's church events and she has well over 20 years of mentoring experience. She loves to encourage, uplift, and inspire.

She is a self-proclaimed social butterfly. She loves nothing more than to be surrounded by friends and family, a glass of wine in hand, retelling the horrors of hormones, high school and raising kids. Growing up in the Northwest has given Karen a profound appreciation of the outdoors, and she has camping on her top five things to do on a summer weekend. She loves to learn new things and never wants to put herself in a box when it comes to creativity or any skill set she may possess.

She has one adult son who is the light of her life, an amazing family, and a fabulous network of friends.  Since she raised a boy she’s a fan of action movies, loves all the Avenger, Transformer and Fast & Furious series'. But what girl doesn’t like chick flicks? She’s an avid collector of Victorian-era antiques and hopes to one day fill a hutch cabinet with the miniature shoes, couches, lamps, the old-fashioned pump perfume bottles, as well as other things she’s collected over the years, which are currently housed in a box. Somewhere.

Karen spent her early childhood in Portland, Oregon and moved to Boise, Idaho when she was 11.  She has lived in many cities and states but has always considered Boise her home. She loves to sing, dance, read, enjoys good food and better wine, and wholeheartedly believes that laughter is the best form of medicine. She currently resides in Boise, Idaho
